The Only Hotel in Asia with a Paddy Field for Rice Harvests is in Laos

As the gateway to enjoy some of the most breathtaking nature, it is little wonder hotels around Asia are taking the lead to merge with their counterparts and live environmentally friendlier.

Pullman Luang Prabang is perhaps the only hotel in Asia with full-scale terraced paddy fields that produce rice harvests for the restaurant and distributed to the local community in Laos.

For the last decade, Pullman Luang Prabang has steadily received multiple awards for its sustainable practices in the UNESCO World Heritage Site-occupying 16 hectares of greenery, lake and mountainous views. 

The recently opened onsite organic garden not only bountifully supplies the resort’s restaurant, it aimed to significantly lessen the carbon footprint in the formal royal capital.

Indeed, this initiative is more than just a vegetable garden, the farmstead includes a fruit orchard, tropical garden, greenhouse nursery, a buffalo pasture, duck pond, and even an area housing chickens and goats.

The all-rounded eco-tourism encourages guests to learn about the rice cultivation process by helping to plant and harvest the rice, animal feeding, egg collecting, fruit picking and buffalo milking at Pullman Luang Prabang.
