Across four flagship properties in Bali, Alila Villas Uluwatu, Alila Ubud, Alila Manggis and Alila Seminyak are now fully self-sustainable for its waste management following its launch of “Zero Waste to Landfill” initiative in 2016.
Guests to these Indonesian island resorts can be clear that their wastes are channeled into recycling through the resorts’ onsite laboratory.
The “Integrated Sustainable Resource Recovery Facility” (iSuRRF) in all Alila resorts in Bali manages the waste to be reused as building materials and recycled.
Using simple engineering systems, one of the wastes such as plastics are converted into light crude oil before it is distilled to produce diesel, kerosene and gasoline for usage in hotels while plastics, glass and ceramics are shredded and crushed to be upcycled into green building materials.
The environmental effort sees to it that each Alila hotel also has a composting section and an organic garden that grows food for the kitchen.
For a larger zero waste effort, Alila works with local villagers for waste collection and hosts classes for guests in building their own permaculture garden at home.
