Unveiling of IIBD Eco Cornerstone (L-R) YB Datuk Kamaruzzaman bin Abu Kassim, YBhg Paduka Alinah Ahmad, YBhg Tuan Haji Amran bin Abdul Rahman
While Singapore has supertrees at Garden by the Bay, the newly built Ibrahim International Business District (IIBD) features Malaysia’s first urban park and tree in Johor Bahru in promoting a sustainable culture.
A Threatened Species
The first urban tree in this country is sculpted to an endangered local species which is listed in International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species in 2013. The 20-feet Pokok Meranti Johor is also a singing sculpture that chimes to the breeze thanks to the solid stainless steel branches and leaves.
An Eco-Sustainable Creation
It is a sparkling beauty to behold in daylight as the wide base of the sculpture is made of bits of coloured broken glass that glimmers with a spectrum of light. Besides that, the Sultan Abu Bakar Monument Park houses 6 remarkable structures called Birds of Paradise which in contrast projects a lightshow that resembles flying birds at nighttime.
These call attention to the preservation of nature to the community as the Eco Cornerstone of IIBD inspires to be an environmental landmark and attraction in the city Johor Bahru.
