From the producer of multiple award-winning The Lion King and Mary Poppins musical, Aladdin make its way to the shores of Singapore in Southeast Asia for a debut! The magic lamp and its magical production will play its first and only Asian stop at Sands Theatre from now till 1 September 2019.
The Aladdin musical made its world premiere back in 2014 in Broadway’s New Amsterdam Theatre and has since welcomed close to 10 million people worldwide.
Based on the Academy Award-winning animated film, a musical like Aladdin is befitting of its jaw-dropping stage sets and spectacular costumes in telling the tale of a magic lamp in Agrabah.
Of course, all of it would be naught without the talented team and cast lead by Gareth Jacobs in the role of Genie, Graeme Isaako as Aladdin and Shubshri Kandiah as Princess Jasmine.
The most mind-blowing scene would perhaps be in the legendary Cave of Wonders where Aladdin is tasked to retrieve the old-looking lamp.
Belting tracks after tricks, the cast danced and sang with a large golden backdrop and pyramid towers of gold. Audiences couldn’t help but to cheer for the cast after every song.
This spectacular production has 84 special effects– including the ever-iconic flying carpet scene– and glittering costumes, which feature almost 500,000 Swarovski crystals in recreating the fantasy city and characters in Aladdin.
Also, do you know it took more than 40 sea containers to transport the exotic set, props and the entire staging to Singapore? Aladdin is truly a fabulous and extravagant Broadway musical-comedy to catch in a lifetime!
